My name is Meganne Godke and I am in my last year of Elementary Education at UCF. I’ve always loved helping and teaching those around me, and as I grew up, I realized that working with kids was quickly becoming a passion of mine. Since my mother was a teacher, I would volunteer at her school and work with all of her students, and I noticed that my favorite part about helping them learn was to see how excited they got when they finally understood something new. I believe that being a teacher and helping children grow is one of the most rewarding professions because we are paving the way towards a brighter future. If I can be a positive influence in the lives of each of my students, then I know I have done my job right.
I decided to join PedsAcademy because I believe that every child deserves an education, regardless of who or where they are. The joy on the children’s faces when I bring in activities or robots into their rooms not only enriches their lives, but mine as well. Some of the students we work with in this program have missed a lot of schooling, so creating a curriculum that is specified to their needs is very important for their childhood development. PedsAcademy has allowed me to embrace challenges and learn how to create lessons that accommodate any needs of every student, whether it be a child who speaks a different language or a child who struggles speaking at all. Everyone knows how important an education is, especially for young children, so those who spend a considerable amount of time in the hospital should be provided an education that allows them to be the best they can be. I hope as time goes on, more and more hospitals will provide a program similar to PedsAcademy, because not only has my life been changed for the better, but so have the lives of the children we work with every day.
