My name is Meghan Whiting, I am 21 years old and I am from Naples, Florida. I am currently in my senior year at UCF majoring in Elementary Education and I must say it has been the most impactful semester yet. I have always known that I have wanted to be a teacher, working with kids is a passion of mine. I love seeing how excited they get to learn and it is so rewarding when they are learning something without it feeling like it.
When I heard about this program it struck something in me. I thought I wanted the tradition classroom setting, but this was a once in a lifetime experience. This internship has taught me so many things, for example, how to be flexible and being able to reach each and every student. PedsAcademy allows each student to learn no matter what has happened. I believe that the parents are impacted the most from this program. It allows them to not have to worry about their child’s schooling. Some of these students are here for hours, days, weeks, or even months. They miss so much school and their parents may have no idea what to do. We are going in and individualizing tasks to better help each student personally. I know that these experiences are going to help me tremendously when I become a classroom teacher. I have enjoyed every single moment throughout this internship and I am so glad I was part of PedsAcademy. I am excited to see future interns come in and impact these children’s lives.
