For as long as I can remember, I have known my purpose in life is to help others through education. My journey to fulfill this purpose has led me to work with children and teachers in underprivileged communities, war-torn regions, and now the remarkable PedsAcademy at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
My time at PedsAcademy as a postdoctoral scholar and teacher has been invaluable to me professionally and personally. As a mathematics teacher and teacher educator, I was able to experience first-hand how a well-designed and rigorous lesson can help children get back to the routine of schooling (enthusiastically), as well as have many of their psychosocial and emotional needs be met. It was inspiring to see both children and teacher-interns enjoy the therapeutic value of education.
As a researcher, I was able to delve into a new and innovative field that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of education and become more curious and reflective about teaching and learning. Last, but certainly not least, my time at PedsAcademy has instilled in me perseverance, empathy, and patience. I am very grateful for this opportunity to work with the greatest colleagues, teacher-interns and children, and I am so excited to see the extraordinary achievements yet to come.
